Rev. 11 [...]
Then it is stated: "And the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months." The word "they" must of necessity apply to those who oppose God's kingdom and who treat it and its representatives with contempt. It was in 1914 that Christ Jesus was placed upon his throne, and it was there that the nations of the earth began to manifest a contempt for the new government of Christ, and thus symbolically to tread it down. The date of the beginning of the treading down is therefore fixed in 1914, because the treading down must begin shortly after the Lord takes his power and begins his reign. The "forty and two months" of the treading down equals 1260 days, and this period is identical with the 1260 days that the "two witnesses" prophesy in sackcloth.
