and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, [...] the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. "-Rev. 8:10,11.
The "great star" falling from heaven as a burning lamp was Satan. "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." (Luke 10:18) He was one of the great stars before Jehovah God.

⚫ The Wormwood symbolizes the Christian clergy of Christendom

Writes John : "And the third angel blew his trumpet. And a great star burning as a lamp fell from heaven, and it fell upon a third of the rivers and upon the fountain of waters. And the name of the star is called Wormwood [Greek, The Absinthe]. And a third of the waters turned into wormwood, and many of the men died from the waters, because these had been made bitter." - Revelation 8:10,11. [...] In view of the e features about it, what religious class of people could this blazing, falling "great star" picture but the apostate Christian clergy of Christendom, Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant and other wise sectarian ?

BITTER WATER FROM RELIGIOUS STARS

Would you think, though , that a “star” could turn fresh water to bitter? Such a star could do so, if it lived up to its name Wormwood or Absinthe, [...] John saw a “star burning as a lamp” fall from heaven and down into a third of the rivers and water fountains, thus making a third of the fresh waters bitter like wormwood, so much so that “many of the men” died from drinking them. (Rev. 8:10, 11) [...] In its being a fallen “star” and being able to affect the drinking water of possibly a third of the men disastrously, this “ star” named Wormwood pictured the religious clergy of Christendom, whose population embraces “many of the men,” about a third of earth’s population. [...] It has been a bitter potion that the clergy have given their church people to drink thus far, but the greatest bitterness of this clergy-given potion will be tasted by them at HarMagedon. There a destruction awaits them at God’s hand because of swallowing and following the religious doctrine and counsel of this fallen “star” named Wormwood!

⚫ The Wormwood symbolizes a bitter and poisonous substance

WORMWOOD. This designates many, frequently somewhat woody plants having an intensely bitter taste and a strong aromatic odor. Several varieties of wormwood are found in Palestine, particularly in desert areas. In Scripture, wormwood is compared with the aftereffects of immorality (Prov. 5:4) and the bitter experience that was to come and did come upon Judah and Jerusalem at the hands of the Babylonians. (Jer. 9 :15 ; 23:15 ; Lam. 3:15, 19) It also represents injustice and unrighteousness (Amos 5:7; 6 :12) and is used with reference to apostates. (Deut. 29 :18) At Revelation 8 :11, wormwood denotes a bitter and poisonous substance.
